Sections not Covered in Syllabus are in Articles

A few topics in the practice section of the wiki article are from parts of the source not covered by the syllabus which only covers section 1, 2 and 3. For example:

  • Sources of biases is from section 4
  • Types of Ethical Frameworks is from Appendix 2

Should we still expect exam questions about those topics?

Comments

  • Probably not - But I thought that they tied in really well to the paper and had trouble coming up with enough questions from just the first 3 sections. I do think sources of bias is pretty intuitive and has a small chance of coming out in the exam

  • It would be great if it was mentioned when something included in the wiki articles is not actually part of the syllabus. This way we can better prioritize what is important, as there is already a significant amount of material to learn.

  • We generally try to do what you're (rightly) suggesting. Even for material that IS in the syllabus, we try to judge the degree of importance and put the most likely exam questions front and centre and relegate, what in our judgement, are the less important topics. That is, the topics wouldn't make good exam questions thus would be less likely to be tested.

That said, sometimes material that isn't strictly in the syllabus is sometimes helpful as background information for understanding the material that is on the syllabus.

We admit that it's our opinion so just take it for what it's worth. It's really too bad that the CAS doesn't release exams anymore because that was always the sure-fire way to know what was important and what wasn't.

Also, this reading, CIA.Bias, is new to the syllabus and we do take feedback seriously. Over time, the wiki articles are streamlined and improved based on candidate ideas like what you've outlined above. So thank you taking the time to comment.
