Any advantage of legislation over guidelines?

The wiki only talks about advantages of guidelines over legislation. Does legislation have any advantage at all?

  • This is a great question, and I think it can be subjective. The first point that comes to mind is that legislation is legally binding, and would enforce uniformity across companies and jurisdictions (if the legislation is federal).

Additionally, and probably less applicable, legislation is often focused on protecting the consumer. I would consider this an advantage in some scenarios.
